How to create a reflection in Photoshop in 6 easy steps

Today's tutorial from Digital Photography School gives step by step instructions on how to create a reflection in Photoshop in six easy steps, in less than 10 minutes. It is written by Darlene Hildebrandt a professional photographer and educator who teaches aspiring amateurs, hobbyists and pros how to improve their photography skills through virtual photography tutoring, classes, and photography travel tours.

Creating a reflection using Photoshop is one of those things that at first glance looks really hard, but really isn’t, once you break down the steps (just light Light Painting which I covered in another two part series). In this article I’m going to demystify creating a reflection, a technique that works particularly well on images with open pavement, and HDR processed images which tend to make the pavement look wet already.

To read the full article follow this link We’re going to learn how to go from this . . .

How to Use ISO Settings in Digital Photography

Today's article from Picture Correct gives a simple explanation of how to use ISO on today's digital cameras and is written by Andrew Goodall who writes for http://www.naturesimage.com.au and is a nature photographer based in Australia. He manages a gallery in Montville full of landscape photography from throughout Australia.

ISO should be one of the easiest aspects of digital photography to master, but many beginners in photography still have a hard time understanding this fundamental camera setting.
I suspect this is because of the way it is being taught. You see, ISO started out as a property of film, and it was much easier to visualize it in terms of the old technology. So that’s where I want to start my explanation, before bringing you into the 21st century with ISO today.

Seeing the Light and Understanding post Processing

Learn how to use light when taking your photographs and then understand how to make the best of it during post-processing in this two e-book package from Mitchell Kanashkevich, a tireless world wanderer and a travel / documentary photographer, working predominantly in Asia and Eastern Europe.
Buy ebook Seeing the Light and Understanding post Processing

Overview of Seeing the Light

The eBook is made up of three sections which cover the use of a flash, a reflector and natural light. After a short introduction to each type of light, you are presented with photographic examples, diagrams and descriptions, explaining the aim of particular setups and how the lighting effects in the example photos were achieved.

The aim of the eBook is to give you a general understanding of the main types of light, but its main purpose is to be a practical guide, to get you out there, shooting, experimenting and using light creatively in the field.
Buy ebook Seeing the Light and Understanding post Processing

Overview of Understanding Post-processing

“Understanding Post-Processing” is a practical guide to post-processing of photographs in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. The eBook briefly looks at the philosophy behind post-processing and aims to help you gain an understanding of those tools which are most relevant to making your images striking and powerful.

Five of my photographs are analyzed in-depth through a step-by step breakdown of the actions required to achieve the final look of each image - from opening up the .RAW files to applying the finishing touches in Photoshop.

Note: While the eBook covers Lightroom and Photoshop, over 80% of the actions discussed can be done without Photoshop and all of them can be done without Lightroom. If you don’t have Lightroom, you will be able to apply everything in this eBook to your workflow and if you don’t have Photoshop, you will still be able to get a lot out of the eBook . Apple Aperture users will find that Adobe’s packages are quite different and thus will only be able to benefit from the philosophical elements of the eBook.

Silhouette Photography Tips and Tutorial

Today's article is from Picture Correct and gives tips on shooting silhouettes. It is written by Pranav Bhasin, an avid photographer who provides photography learning tutorials on his blog (lifeblob dot com). He also likes to interact and help amateur photographers.

Normally every time you take a photo, you want the subject to be as crisp and clear as possible. However, today, we will talk about a technique that hides almost everything from the viewer, leaving it all to the imagination and delivers a stunning effect at the same time.

Silhouettes are used by artists and professionals to convey drama, emotion in a simple yet striking manner and we are going to give you a quick run down on how you can create magical silhouettes with your camera.

Photography tips: alternative angles.

Todays article comes courtesy of Wanderlust Magazine and is written by Steve Davey, Wanderlust’s photo tips guru.  A professional travel photographer and writer, he is the author of the best selling Unforgettable Places to See Before You Die and Unforgettable Islands to escape to before you die, both published by BBC Books, and translated into over 40 language editions.

A photo should be more than just a simple rendering of reality. It should convey some meaning to the viewer; it should elicit a response or be visually stimulating. The key to making your pictures work on a deeper level is through composition: rather than just snapping away, pause and try to create something a little more thoughtful.

A useful compositional device is including a strong diagonal. These can be used to lead the onlooker’s eye into a detail, to link objects together or just to create a more graphic image.

Baby colobus monkey featured on photobotos.com

One of my favourite photos from our recent holiday in Tanzania is this baby red colobus monkey and was taken in Jozani National Park in Zanzibar, and it has been featured on the photobotos.com web site

The Zanzibar Red Colobus (Piliocolobus kirkii) is a species of red colobus monkey endemic to Unguja, the main island of the Zanzibar archipelago. The Zanzibar Red Colobus is endangered and there are about 1.500 monkeys left.

Camera Modes: Setting Aperture and Shutter Speed

Today's article from Picture Correct gives a very basic introduction to the various modes on the modern DSLR camera in addition to full auto. It is written by Tom Greenwood (http://www.sydneyportraits.com.au/).  Not so long ago he was a journalist in Southeast Asia. After making the switch to photography he worked as a photojournalist as well as shooting for organisations such as the UN World Food Programme, Oxfam and Save the Children.

You might think that acquiring a $1,000 DSLR makes you a photographer. In truth, the first step down the “photographer road” is switching from auto mode to experimenting in AV, TV, and M. But, what do those letters mean?
