Today's featured artist is photographer Fraida Gutovich.

I am Fraida Gutovich, a Los Angeles based photographer who has a passion for birds and wildlife. Recently, my travels took me to Lake Clark National Park in Alaska. There I had the opportunity to photograph Grizzly bears in their natural environment.

A Beginner's Guide to Choosing Shooting Mode

Today's article, which is from Digital Photography School, is written by Bruce Wunderlich and provides an easy to follow beginners guide to the various modes available on today's digital cameras. Bruce is from Marietta, Ohio, and he became interested in photography as a teenager in the 1970s, and has been a passionate student of the art ever since. Bruce recently won Photographer’s Choice award at the 2014 Shoot the Hills Photography Competition in the Hocking Hills near Logan, Ohio.

Even the most seasoned veteran photographer may use a pre-programmed mode occasionally in order to concentrate immediately on a shot rather than take the time to calculate exposure and miss the opportunity for the great image. But if you are a beginner at photography or want to advance your photography skills beyond the use of Auto mode, begin by adventuring away from the green box.

When you are setting up your camera to capture an image, there are four basic results to consider: wide depth of field, shallow depth of field, motion blur or freeze motion. How do you know which mode to use to control these basics of photography? Let’s take a look.

Featured Photographer Mike Savad

Today's featured artist is photographer Mike Savad.

Mike Savad is an accomplished artist. His HDR photography looks a lot like a painting and its designed to look like one. Influenced by Norman Rockwell, along with artists of the renaissance, he creates a new kind of art style. Something that is both unique and quite stunning.

Mike also specializes in colorizing black and whites. Using a brand new technique he developed himself, he hand shades images digitally, remastering them. The newly colored image has the appearance of a color photo or a painting. You will never believe they were ever black and white.

His steampunk creations are very popular. Using digital art as a medium, he creates steampunk visions that are quite interesting. Steampunk is very popular these days, it's “in” to be old.

Definitive Guide to Night Photography.

The night sky may be the most awe-inspiring spectacle that any of us will ever see. It can, however, be difficult to capture in a photograph, as it requires specialized techniques that are rarely used when shooting images during the day.

If it is an ambition of yours to take stunning night photography shots, then this guide is for you!

Renowned photographer and author Grant Collier sheds light on how to capture these otherworldly images by sharing secrets he has learned over the past 12 years.

Finally, he offers extensive advice on how to capture and process images at night. He goes beyond the basics and teaches how to blend multiple exposures and create huge stitched images to capture incredibly detailed photos that you never before thought possible!

Friday Photography Quotes

Today's photography quote comes from Robert Frank.

Robert Frank (born November 9, 1924) is an American photographer and documentary filmmaker. His most notable work, the 1958 book titled The Americans, earned Frank comparisons to a modern-day de Tocqueville for his fresh and nuanced outsider's view of American society. Critic Sean O'Hagan, writing in The Guardian in 2014, said The Americans "changed the nature of photography, what it could say and how it could say it. . . . . it remains perhaps the most influential photography book of the 20th century." Frank later expanded into film and video and experimented with manipulating photographs and photomontage.

5 Tips to Take Your Landscape Photography from Good to Great

In this article from Digital Photography School, Barry Brady, gives us five of his tips to help improve our landscape photography. Barry J Brady is a Fine Art Landscape and commercial photographer based in Vancouver, BC. He is also an addicted traveller and loves travelling to far off places and capturing their essence. Barry loves nothing more than being behind his camera or showing other photographers how to get the most out of their camera. To see more of his work, visit his site here

Landscape photography is one of the most favoured genres of photography. It also happens to be the one genre that is not easy to master. The reason is simple, to become really good at landscape photography, you need to spend hours trying to master it. Most photographers are not able to dedicate that amount of time, so it becomes frustrating. Many photographers end up being disappointed with their images, but there are few things that you can do to make sure you get better results, in a short space of time.

Featured Photographer Lynn Bauer

Today's featured artist is photographer Lynn Bauer.

My name is Lynn Bauer. I was born and raised in Southern California where my father was a lighting director for the studios. So, when I picked up a camera and showed some interest, my dad jumped right in and took an interest in helping me develop my skills. I majored in Photography during my high school years, where Dad and I came up with some pretty creative projects that were primarily devoted to creative lighting, as that was his speciality. From there, I was accepted into a sought after photography school. But, as sometimes happens…I fell in love, got married, and spent the next number of years raising my kids.

Once they “left the nest,” my husband gifted me with something I have come to treasure…my first digital camera…and, life seemed to begin again!!

I have many “favorite” things to photograph. On a personal note, it would be my adorable grandchildren. But, next to them, I have a love for nature and just about everything outdoors! California is packed with incredible scenery, from it’s sunrises and sunsets at the beach, grand mountains, national parks, beautiful deserts…and so much more. I have been blessed to photograph well-know and iconic places, as well as many off-the-beaten-path locations.

I chase wildflowers, as well as fall colors. My pursuit of wildflowers often takes me to our “second home,” where we plan to retire, one day, in the state of Texas. And, I have traveled across our country for fall colors on the east coast. But, I am blessed that California has a great wealth of both wildflowers and fall colors when things line up right, and I can be kept very busy at home, as well!

One last passion that I would like to share with you is my love of hummingbirds. I have spent years learning about them and creating an environment to lure then into our yard, where I can watch them closely. And, this also gives me great opportunities to photograph them…and, I spend countless hours doing just that!!
