Featured Artist Mike Nellums

This weeks featured artist is photographer Mike Nellums, and this is what Mike had to tell us when we spoke to him recently.

Hello, my name is Mike Nellums. I can't tell you what a thrill and an honor it is for me to share my love of photography with you. I am a self-taught photographer born and raised in the USA in southern Mississippi. Actually my very first creative passion was my love of movies. I was completely mesmerized when it came to the big screen and how movies were made. I knew when I was 7 years old I wanted to work in the movie or television industry. It was from this creative passion that my interest in photography was born – and lives still.
Under the Overpass
In college, I majored in Radio-Television-Film and was lucky enough to work on a few movies back in the early seventies. The lure of a regular paycheck drew me into television production where I spent the rest of my working career. From writing, producing, directing, shooting, and editing – I've done it all when it comes to movies and television production. My career in television brought me to Washington, DC, at the end of the eighties when I accepted a job at the newly created The Discovery Channel. While in DC, I also worked for The Learning Channel, Animal Planet, and National Geographic Television.
Pitcher Plants
My love for photography has followed me my whole life. My first “film” camera – yes, I'll admit it. I'm old enough to have used film in my camera – was a medium format Pentax 6 X 7. I've always loved the medium and large format photography. I've been shooting digital for about thirteen year now, and I love it. I'm retired now, so I get to devote a lot more time to traveling and to my photography. I've been a member of FAA since 2011.

So, welcome to my world, and to the way I see things. You're invited in to wander amongst the many images that live in my galleries. If you see something you've never seen before...if you experience something you've never felt before...or if I can make you smile...or if I can take you to a place you've never seen before – then my work within these galleries is complete. Sure everything here is for sale. But any joy you might come away with is absolutely free. On the house. So, thank you for visiting. Stay as long as you like. And I do hope you will stop in again sometimes.
